Hello everyone and welcome to WlH, Today in this series of 3 videos, we will look at the reasons for student visa refusals for France. If you are new here, take a second to subscribe.
Reason 1: “The travel document presented is false/falsified”
Forgery and use of forgery. The first reason for visa refusal is simple and understandable. It constitutes a criminal offence. Not only will your visa be refused, but you risk being banned from the country for 5 years.
This is why you must ensure that your passport, sponsorship documents, payslips, etc., are authentic documents.
In 2020, we knew a Guinean student, let’s call her Myriam. Myriam bought falsified documents for financial sponsorship through accomplices found on the internet. Because of this, Myriam received a refusal with a ban from French territory for 5 years, until 2025.
Reason 2: “You have not provided proof that you have sufficient resources to cover expenses of all kinds during your stay in France, or you are not able to legally acquire these means”
This is a common reason used when the student does not present enough clear evidence indicating that they will have the necessary financial resources to support themselves for 12 months. These financial resources amount to €615/month, or approximately €7500 per year.
We agree that the consulate will not take the risk of granting a long-stay visa to France to people who do not justify the necessary financial capacities. This is why it is preferable to prepare on all points, especially financially, as soon as you have a study project in France. You must ask yourself how to pay for accommodation in France? Food and other study expenses?
Proper preparation will reassure the consulate that you have the necessary financial means to support yourself for a year, without resorting to social assistance. It will also reassure your family and loved ones that you will be in the best conditions upon your arrival in France.
In April 2021, after her admission to the University of Tours, Djamila, an Algerian student, had to find accommodation and prove sufficient financial means. Having difficulties blocking the required €7,500, she turned to her cousin in France for financial support and accommodation. Despite these efforts, the French embassy in Algiers rejected her application due to the reliability of the resources (her cousin being on maternity leave), reason 2.
Djamila, not discouraged, sought another housing solution and reoriented herself to justify her resources with the support of her family in Algeria. With the help of the World like Home community, she obtained accommodation with a host family in Tours and reviewed how to justify her financial resources. Finally, her second visa application was accepted in September 2021. Link to her full story in the comments.
In this video, we have seen reasons 1 and 2 for student visa refusals for France, which are: the travel document is false/falsified for reason 1, and You have not provided proof that you have sufficient resources to cover expenses of all kinds during your stay in France, or you are not able to legally acquire these means for reason 2.
In the next video, which will be published on Saturday evening, we will see reasons 3 and 4 for student visa refusals in France.
