24 March 2025. Paris 11:59 PM. The application phase on Mon Master is over! All applications will be sent to institutions for review on 31 March 2025. Speaking of choices, did you know that the ethics committee of Mon Master recommends reducing the number of choices? Something to discuss between bites of cheese or in front of Netflix! 
As reported by L’Étudiant in a recent article, the current limit is 15 choices, but students make an average of 10. Is the grand slam of applications over? 
The main argument for reducing choices? Too many choices generate stress for students (we confirm!) and complex management for universities (we can imagine!). The idea is to simplify the process and encourage us, the students, to make more informed choices. Basically, we should focus on the master’s programmes that truly suit us, rather than applying to everything and anything, « just in case. »
Alright, we agree, if this recommendation is implemented, reducing from 15 to a lower number of choices could be a bit frustrating. But is it really a bad thing? Fewer choices could mean more time to refine our applications and maximise our chances for the master’s programmes we truly care about.
Now, the big question: will this recommendation be followed through? How would universities react to this change? Reducing from 15 choices to how many? 7? And above all, will we finally be able to sleep soundly during the application period (the next one, that is)?
