Let’s start with what will take up half of your expenses: accommodation.
If you’re lucky enough to get a place in a Crous university residence, your rent will be relatively affordable, around €250 to €350. It’s a good deal. But if you’re like many students and have to look elsewhere, it can quickly become a headache. In the provinces, you can find a studio for €400, but in Paris… there, prices soar. For less than €800, it’s almost mission impossible!
And we continue with what comes right after rent: food. You need to eat well, don’t you?
A meal at the university restaurant will cost you about €3.25. Doing your calculations, between meals, breakfasts, and weekends, you should manage with €200 to €300 per month. But be careful, there are student solidarity grocery stores that can save the day!
Transport now. Here too, it varies greatly depending on the city you’re in. On average, count between €15 and €50 per month. If you’re in the Paris region, it’s a bit more: with the Imagine R pass, it’s about €383 per year.
And then there are the extras. Phone and internet, if you take low-cost offers, you can get by for about €40 per month. But if you’re the type to change phones often, this budget can quickly rise.
Don’t neglect maintenance and hygiene either: plan between €20 and €100 per month.
