Andry, a young Malagasy student with a burning dream to pursue his studies in computer science in France. In April 2022, this dream began to materialise when he received his admission to the University of Paris Nanterre. Full of hope, he prepared for the next crucial step: obtaining his student visa.
But the road to his dream was not easy. After submitting his visa application, Andry received a shock: a refusal for reason 5 “The information provided to justify the conditions of stay is incomplete and/or unreliable.”
Reason 5, known for being the king of refusal reasons, is often very difficult to decipher.

Determined not to give up, Andry improved his application and submitted a second request. This time, he included an irrevocable transfer certificate of €4200 and an accommodation certificate signed by his uncle in Île-de-France. But, once again, his hope was dashed by a second refusal for the same reason 5.
Devastated but not defeated, Andry decided to try a third time. With the help of his sister and the WlH community, he identified the weaknesses in his application. They suspected that his uncle’s accommodation was not large enough. His uncle then agreed to financially support Andry. Meanwhile, they found new accommodation in Noisy-Le-Grand.
On 4 October 2023, Andry submitted his third visa application. This time, the application was complete and well-organised. Every detail was carefully checked and rectified by the WlH team.
After two weeks of anxious waiting, Andry’s sister finally received the long-awaited news: Andry had obtained his visa for France! A moment of immense joy and relief for the whole family.
From Andry’s story, we can draw three important lessons:

No limit on the number of possible appeals: As long as the admission is valid, it is possible to reapply for a visa.

No point in reapplying just to reapply: Each new application must be improved and rectified compared to the previous ones.

Visa refusal is not the end of the world: With perseverance and the right information, it is possible to overcome refusals.
