Hello @Andrew I can’t start a new conversation so I’m replying here.

My little brother recently received a refusal for reason 5. I helped him put together the application. I live in France myself and went through the same procedure.

Key points to remember: AVI of 700 USD (approximately 650€)

Accommodation: accommodation certificate from my uncle, who is French, where I am currently staying. The accommodation is 30 minutes from my brother’s school (Inseec Bachelor) and meets the conditions. My uncle and his wife have no dependent children, there are two bedrooms, and the accommodation is nearly 80m^2.

The tuition fee is almost 10K€ A first instalment of 3500€ has been paid and the other two instalments of 3206€ are due in March and April.

I understood that the mistake was not in demonstrating how the tuition fees would be paid, although my father’s salary (almost 7000 USD) per month and his available bank balance were sufficient to cover this expense.

We will resubmit a new application this Tuesday.

My father has transferred 5000 USD (nearly 4700€) to my account to pay the rest of the tuition fees. Since I am responsible for making the payments.

He has made another transfer of 5000 USD to my little brother’s account, for the rest of the tuition and a subsistence provision.

In parallel, we kept the AVI of 700 USD (approximately 650€) And my uncle who is hosting me and also wants to host my little brother will act as guarantor for 350€ per month.

My question is as follows: Should we make my uncle the main guarantor and have him cover 615€? And keep my father responsible for the tuition fees?

He earns between 1600 and 1900 net (it varies because he is on a permanent contract in a temp agency). He is married and his wife earns about 1600 net as well.

Given the facts I have presented to you, what is your advice?

As of 24 January 2025, the net minimum wage in France is €1,426.30 per month for full-time work. This means that your uncle, who earns €1,600 net per month, cannot provide support for an amount exceeding €174, unless his savings allow it.

Now, can he provide support together with his wife? This is a possibility that needs to be carefully considered.

But given the situation, my advice would be not to put him as a guarantor if your father is already earning well, with free accommodation, and an AVI, it should be fine.

By the way, how did you arrange the AVI?

My advice would have been to increase the amount of the AVI to cover tuition fees as well, or your father could simply provide support for the remainder of his studies.

The AVI was made at the EQUITYBCDC bank. 700 USD every 10th of the month for 12 months.

For tuition fees, 5000 USD were deposited into my little brother’s account and 5000 USD into my account. I will make a statement to acknowledge having received the first part of the tuition fees from my father (with my bank statements as proof) as I am the one responsible for paying.

So I think, as you said, I will keep my father as the main guarantor. Statement of support for the tuition fees, AVI + the money available in my little brother’s account. That should do the trick.

I remain open to all your suggestions.

A question, why didn’t your father simply send the tuition money directly to your brother’s account, to the school, or add it to the AVI?

Furthermore, why is the end date for the AVI « New order »? Was this the same wording used for your AVI?

I think that for the « new order » it is a bank error, my father will redo the transfer order clearly stating that it is for 12 months.

When I completed my procedures, I hadn’t done an AVI. And I wasn’t in a private school, that also plays a role. I had just received a certificate of support for €615 issued by the same uncle. The difference is, I was in Amiens and had found a rental contract.

The first part of the tuition fees was sent to me since the deductions will be made from my bank account. I have already paid 3500 as a deposit. The next deduction is 3206 and is scheduled for March. That’s why I received the 5000 USD, and my little brother also 5000 USD.

Moreover, I have a nephew of my father who is available to provide support of 350€ monthly, he earns 4000€ net, married, with two children. He has already sent the accompanying documents.

So in the end, we will keep the AVI of 700 USD (my father will issue a certificate of support for the tuition) + the 5000 USD that are in my little brother’s account (we will make it a blocked account) + the support of 350€.

For the accommodation aspect, he will be housed for free at my uncle’s where I currently live in Île de France.

Tell me @Andrew, what is your opinion on the final composition of the file?

You shouldn’t overload the file too much. I don’t think you need the 350 euros sponsorship. But if you decide to keep it, then the sponsorship certificate must be legalized at the town hall or by a notary.

My father insists on having a guarantor in France. So he will just act as a guarantor for the tuition fees and leave his nephew as the main guarantor.

Hello my sister. In the DRC, don’t bother with the free accommodation certificate, it doesn’t work and is even impossible. I know many who have been refused for this reason. My own big brother was refused because of the free accommodation. On his second application, he used a rental contract and got his visa. I advise you to increase your AVI (only) to even 10,000 USD or 12,000 USD. And just make a rental contract.

Hello, thank you for the response. The issue is the timing. His return is soon and the visa application submission is this Wednesday. Moreover, it’s already not easy to find appointments. I don’t think I can find a rental contract in Paris in a few days.

Regarding accommodation, I also know people for whom it worked with attestations. Additionally, the person is also hosting me. Does that weigh in the balance? Since in his justificatory letter my brother mentions this detail, and I also sent him my tax notice which shows the address. What do you think?
