Hello to you and welcome to WlH, Today, I am going to tell you an incredible story, that of Meryem, and how she managed to overcome the barrier of reason 2 to obtain her student visa in France. Stay until the end because you will discover three essential lessons for your own student visa application.
In April 2023, Meryem receives fantastic news: she is admitted to the University of Tours, in Arts and Humanities. But before she can pack her bags, she must first face the daunting administrative process to obtain her student visa.
Two challenges stand before her: finding reliable accommodation in Tours and proving that she has the necessary financial resources for her studies. She turns to her cousin in ĂŽle-de-France for financial support. Good news, her cousin agrees and provides her with all the necessary documents. Meanwhile, Meryem finds a landlord in Tours who agrees to make a lease remotely. Everything seems perfect, right?
Meryem then submits her visa application at the French embassy in Algiers. Two weeks later, she receives a response… and it’s a refusal, for reason 2! What a shock!
What is reason 2? “You have not provided proof that you have sufficient resources to cover expenses of any kind during your stay in France, or you are not able to legally acquire these means”
Basically, the embassy thinks she hasn’t proven that she has sufficient resources to cover her expenses in France. A common problem, but frustrating, I invite you to watch my video on reason 2.
But Meryem does not get discouraged. With her cousin, they discover the World like Home (WlH) community. Thanks to this community, they find a host family in Tours willing to provide a hosting certificate. And this time, Meryem uses her brother and another cousin in Algeria as financial guarantors.
She submits a new visa application, and on 14 September, when collecting her passport at the French embassy in Algiers, imagine Meryem’s stress… but bingo!! Her visa is granted, she can finally fulfil her dream of studying in France.
So, what lessons can we learn from Meryem’s story?
Lesson number 1: Trust is built.
Meryem and her cousin had to establish a relationship of trust with the WlH team and their host family. This is essential in any human relationship.
Lesson number 2: No need for a guarantor in France.
Meryem’s guarantors were residing in Algeria, and that was enough. But be careful, this rule can vary depending on countries and situations.
Lesson number 3: A visa refusal is not the end of the world.
Stay calm, understand the reasons for the refusal, correct the errors, and submit a new application with new elements. Meryem’s perseverance paid off!
